“Insane Sometimes is about drowning out all your thoughts with music, and just blasting it, and just kind of accepting – hey, we are all crazy, we just don’t want to seem crazy in front of other people who are crazy and that’s what makes us normal. “(Behind the song video, released Oct. 30, 2017)
Grace was not really satisfied with the lyrics for this song. At the MTV Rooftop performance in April 20018, the interviewer asked Grace what her experience with performing her music had taught her that she would bring with her when writing music in the future. Grace answered: “It has really taught me that if you don’t really like words that much, just to keep working on it … Like if there are certain lines that your are like “uh, that doesn’t seem that good, but whatever” and keep going…[without doing anything about them] No! No! I did that so many times and it doesn’t go away, … it would only get worse through the tour. I’d be singing it every time. Like if I didn’t like a certain line, or I thought it was just like, bad, every time it would just make me cringe. And I will never do that again. The interviewer asked for an example Grace: “Insane sometimes” I feel like has the weakest lyrics. I though that I was fine with it at the time. And during tour it just, I never got over it. Like every time I sing that song, I’m like “Oh my God, why didn’t I fix these words?”.(Interview with Gaby Wilson, at the MTV Rooftop performance, Apr. 23, 2018)
One line "Spin the record Darling, Inside of my head" was repurposed from the unfinished song "White Rose"
